Tobacco leaves are the dried, processed leaves of the tobacco plant, Nicotiana tabacum. The leaves are composed of an inner layer of spongy tissue, surrounded by a thick, tough layer of skin, called the cuticle. The leaves are typically dark green to brown in color and have a scent like pipe tobacco.
Tobacco leaves come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can be processed in a number of ways. The leaves can be cured and dried, either by air or with the use of heat, to produce a range of flavors. The leaves can also be processed into snuff or cigar filler.
